I use this in a DIY Sous Vide setup along with the Ranco ETC 111 Temp Controller, a 28 Qt Coleman Xtreme Beer Cooler, and a pot lid rack. I have it clipped to the underside of the rack, holding it about 1 in above the bottom of the cooler. It works PERFECT. Heats 5 gallons of water starting at 115 F to 130 F in a about 15 minutes. The Ranco controller cycles once an hour when the temperature drops 1 degree, it turns the heater on, brings the heat back up in one minute then shuts off. Couldn't be happier.
Great product here does what it says. Heater gets red hot and the wires don't which is great. Spliced this together with a cord I had laying around and am using it to melt some plastic. Amico makes quality products I have a couple of the heating elements and over a dozen thermocouples.
Bought four of these, using three in a cure oven that's [inside] 24" wide, 17" tall, 12" deep. Put the three on the bottom using small angle brackets to hold them off the bottom. Wired together with a SSR (also purchased from same vendor/seller) and they work well. Easily gets the oven to the 250F (or 300F) needed to cure what I'm using. I ordered four at the same time so that I'd have a spare on hand, just in case I need it in the future.
When power is supplied to these, they start to get hot within seconds. Time to a bright red is very fast. Initial run will produce a slight odor, as it burns off anything clinging to the element(s). Just run for 10-30 minutes before you use for the first time. Also, plan where you'll be mounting these. The shielding on the wire is high temp safe (at least to 300F). You'll want the connections to power source outside of what you're heating with these.
