The classic Italian espresso blend that typifies the style of coffee blended for generations by the Bizzarri family. It produces a thick golden crema and a distinctly European flavor profile. It is also excellent as a mild to medium bodied drip coffee. Caffe Umbria is a full service, wholesale coffee roaster based in Seattle, Washington. But the family’s roots in roasting go back to the 1940’s, when Ornello Bizzarri built his roaster in Perugia, Italy. The Arco Etrusco in our logo is a landmark of the Umbrian city.

I live in Seattle, which is the most coffee centric city in the US (we love our coffee and drink it year round) but I prefer an Italian roast, which isn't the most popular type of coffee here. Cafe Umbria is located here in Pioneer Square and the first time I tried it I thought I'd died and gone to coffee heaven. I'm not always willing to make the trek down to the flagship store, but fortunately I can purchase it by the bag and make it at home. Absolutely delicious whether you want espresso or drip. I send it to friends who then become hooked. It's my favorite!
I dont know how people drink some of the other crap out there. If you are going to drink it, you should enjoy it. Cafe Umbria (Gusto Crema) is a stable in my house. Its rich, smooth, never bitter, and fresh. I have tried other local beans but am never happy. Spend an extra dollar or two and buy this. At least buy it when you have company.
I did a side by side comparison with this coffee, and Klatch's 3 most popular coffees. You can read my reviews on those. Without question, Caffe Umbria makes a superior coffee. I gave this 8-9/10. I gave Klatch's Belle Espresso 7/10. I recommend this espresso over all others. There were others in the taste test as well. A Barista Pro-shop blend which I gave 2/10 and Illy's italian dark espresso which got 7-8/10. The taste comparison allowed for unswetened, sweetened and cappuccino tasting. The results were almost the same with the exception of Klatch's "World's Best Espresso" which was very bitter, more flavorful and complex with slight sweetening. Now, I know the theories behind espresso. Espresso should have a very dark or italian roast, be glossy so on and so forth. However, that is ONLY true with lower quality beans. Everything depends on each bean's characteristics and chemistry. If a bean is naturally high in its own sugars, over roasting can caramelize the...
