The Platypus is an excellent symbol when considering the modern workplace and how we should foster communication and conflict utilisation because it does not just represent new ideas and information, but people as well. Employer or employee we are all platypuses.
We are all unique and we are all unprecedented. We all have our own life experience, prejudices, interests not to mention both the communal and individual traits hardwired into our DNA. We all like to achieve goals, albeit in our own way. We are all different.
In the workplace habitat, as soon as one leaves and another worker joins, there is a new workplace. Workplace plasticity needs to be encouraged so that every employee can adapt and grow in an environment of constant change.
Therefore, highly efficient and productive workplaces are places where differences work together and diversity is integrated. Part of the platypus was not descended from a duck and another from a seal; our creature evolved separately, as a response to its own environmental challenges, over time. Innovation stems from the integration of diversity not the imposition of uniformity.
