Additional Information

On September 9, legendary jazz musician Herb Alpert will re-release 24 classic albums from his illustrious catalog. The albums were remastered from the original analog tape mixes by Grammy-winning mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, who was the mastering engineer on many of the Tijuana Brass and Alpert albums. All releases, several of which have been out of print for a number of years (in Europe, some have not been available in over 30 years!), will be presented with their original artwork, making this collection must-have for the Herb Alpert fan!

By the time this album was released in 1966 Herb Alpert could do no wrong. The Tijuana Brass sound was everywhere. And it's little wonder why. For this album Alpert combines show tunes, movie songs and some originals and creates tight, exciting arrangements. "What Now My Love", the only hit single (surprisingly), is done as a quick samba with a grooving rhythm section underneath. "Freckles" is a rollicking song with some cool trombone licks. Perhaps the best song on the album is Sol Lake's "Memories Of Madrid". Guitarist John Pisano contributes the jazz standard "So What's New?". Sol Lake's "Cantina Blue" is another strong track. Julius Wechter's "Brasilia" is a long-time fan favorite, while "If I Were A Rich Man" was a concert staple. The album closes with a gorgeous version of "Shadow Of Your Smile", featuring a nice trombone solo. This album was #1 for nine weeks - the longest time for any TJB album. The remastering by... This review is for the 2016 release of the album, mastered by Bernie Grundman. The sound is excellent. For the first time there is low end (bass) on these tracks. You can clearly hear the punchy kick drum, and the bass player's notes. It sounds open, full...really enjoyable! The packaging for the CD is interesting. It's a cardboard mini-LP type. It features all the original artwork. The CD itself is printed like a record with a label in the middle. It's all a little cheap and thin feeling, like a free CD you'd get in a box of cereal or something. Plus, the CD is just loose in the inside pocket. A separate inner CD removable sleeve (like an LP) would have been a nice touch. The record label for these new releases is "Herb Alpert Presents." I always loved Herb Alpert's album covers. I sort of miss seeing that A&M logo in the corner. It added to the cover art, and of course the A stood for Alpert with the trumpet in the logo. But again, the mastering is excellent, and the music... Read more
Love Herb Alpert and the Brass. Had this in the original stereo record when it came out in the early sixties. Quick delivery and good price. CD quality is good.
